What a joy it has been to visit with you
this past year during our chapter
and national meetings. I have
treasured the one-on-one conversations with
you. There are so many successful members
doing extraordinary work, quietly making a
huge impact. Your Soul is Speaking loudly.
Because of my position as president, I receive
many kudos, but the real thanks go to the
these individuals who give unselfishly of their
time and talents with no expectation of
recognition. There are too many people to
name, so please click on the PDF on the
enhanced section of VOE to learn who the
chairs are and join me in thanking them for
their dedication.
We have the most professional and dedicated group of individuals who serve on the
NSA staff. This year, our Executive Vice President, Stacy Tetschner, CAE, was selected as
a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives.
NSA accomplished many firsts this year too,
including applying to the Committee for the
Standard Occupational Code, which, if approved, will establish the profession of professional speakers as a bona fide occupation.
I hope that you have enjoyed this year of
learning and connecting with colleagues. I
hope you have taken the time to enhance
your ability to Speak with Soul and Substance by deepening your passion, focusing your purpose and igniting your courage
to propel your business to new heights of
success. Thank you for allowing me to serve.
Signing one last time . . .
Welcome Home NSA!
Lenora Billings-Harris, CSP
2006–07 NSA President
One of the best things about NSA is
that the larger we grow the greater
variety we have within our membership. We are each different from one
another. However, we have one thing that
binds us together: Our commitment to the
profession of speaking.
If all NSA members were the same race, religion or gender and we all delivered our content using the same style, it would be pretty
boring. Each one of us walks a different
path and has a unique life. It is that unique
experience that bring the greatest value to
our clients.
Like NSA, Speaker magazine is for everyone
who is a professional speaker. It is about the
skills we need to deliver a message; the
resources we must have to build successful
businesses; and the insight we need to deal
with the challenges we face when we interact with clients and audiences.
Lenora’s theme, Speaking with Soul and
Substance, has provided a great platform
during the past 12 months for exploring both
the art and the business of speaking.
Whatever your purpose, all of us who have
worked on the magazine hope we have
given you the information, insights and inspiration you have needed to grow your business
and to love your life as a professional speaker.
To Your Success,
Tracy Brown
2006–07 Chair, Editorial
Advisory Committee
