Barbara Glanz has spent 75 percent of this past year traveling;
speaking nationally and internationally in Antarctica, Egypt,
India, Thailand, Vietnam, Canada and Mexico. “And it shows,
on my body,” she quips. Glanz made the decision to “shake
things up” professionally by accepting these experiences and
making the conscious choice to enjoy them to the fullest.
“There are so many things to do and interesting people to meet,
and I feel like my energy needs to go to the client first.” She
claims it may be an excuse but she also doesn’t feel comfortable
braving the hotel gym alone, especially in a foreign country.
While traveling, Glanz watches what she eats and pays special attention to her circadian rhythms by getting at least
eight hours of sleep. Every morning she
does a 15-minute stretch routine created by her trainer that energizes and
grounds her for her day.
When at home, Glanz exercises daily, alternating swimming
and walking on the white powdered beaches of Siesta Key.
“When I swim, I don’t think. I count to 102, which is the
number of laps in a mile. It’s the only time my mind isn’t
going 100 mph.” Glanz, continues, “My most fun workout is
a walk on the beach with a friend, where our feet are moving
as fast as our mouths.”
Recently, she was invited to accompany a friend on a 70-mile
charity ride on the back of his Harley-Davison. Her riding
partner was astounded by the ease in which she hopped on
and off the motorcycle. And she wasn’t even sore the next day.
“I feel proud of what I can do,” Glanz says. “At an age
when most people are thinking of retiring, I can say, ‘This
year, I’ve ridden an elephant, a camel and a Harley!’ ”
