cast available on the Internet as an iPod
radio broadcast, or “podcast.” Today,
people are receiving news, information
and entertainment via a wide variety of
media vehicles—you can jump on the
bandwagon or be left behind.
Internet radio, for example, is a great and inexpensive way to disseminate your message to a wide
range of people. If you want to convey an idea, sell
a product or promote a training technique, Internet
radio should be part of your marketing strategy.
Although most people are not in a position to purchase a radio station or get a license to broadcast
an over-the-air signal, anyone with an Internet connection can become a New-Age Marconi.
Internet radio is viewed as a step below broadcast radio in terms of prestige and audience size.
Broadcast radio, however, is limited by geography
and frequency strength.
To illustrate, a guest on a local New York City
radio station has the cachet of being on-air in the
biggest media market in the country. But, at any
given time, only several hundred thousand people
are listening. In contrast, Internet radio has the potential to reach several hundred million listeners.
Of course, this is an extreme case and probably
unlikely—but the potential is there. Internet radio
is what you make of it. The costs of your broadcast, who hosts the show and who listens are all in
your hands. You don’t have to deal with radio producers who claim you are not big enough to be a
guest on their show, or that your topic of expertise
is not of interest to their audience.
