Taking The Terror ou T of Tech, one webcasT aT a Time
the word “geek” conjures up an image of a sullen, brace-mouthed
teenage boy slumped in front of an Xbox® and surrounded by
IfMountain Dew® empties, you’ve come to the wrong place. A
sparky, hip-dressing mom of four, Gina Schreck, CSP, turns that
stereotype on its head with her Gettin’ Geeky webcasts—fun,
five-minute-or-less video shorts in which she takes the intimida-
tion factor out of learning about today’s newest technologies.
Gettin’ Geeky ( www.gettingeeky.blip.tv) started as a way to share information
within Schreck’s Littleton, Colo.-based Synapse 3Di, a speaker marketing company. “I’ve always spoken on humor, but I love gadgets,” she says. “I’d been using
them in my own speaking business as long as I can remember. When I launched
the marketing business, many of the speakers started asking questions about
LinkedIn®, Facebook®, Twitter and Jott™, as well as the stuff like cameras and
podcast recorders that I use for marketing them.” Rather than explaining everything individually, she thought it would be more effective to do a video series, and
Gettin’ Geeky was hatched.
Currently, the site includes more than a dozen shows, with how-tos on popular
social networking sites and applications, as well as tips on using gadgets such as the
iPhone or Kindle™. Fittingly, the technology behind the show is simple.
