Member Segmentation Survey
National Speakers Association (NSA) conducted a membership survey in September 2011 to help the association understand more about member characteristics and needs. The survey results will help NSA hone its offerings of segmented programs and services for the work-
ing professional speaker. The survey was disseminated via e-mail and drew
responses from 643 members ( 22 percent of the total membership).
Member Type
Most NSA members are self-employed. They share a number of specialties, falling into
four distinct categories: 1) Keynoters 2) Salaried 3) Coach, trainer, consultant and/or
facilitator, and 4) Speaker to speakers, marketer to speakers, and/or speakers who
speak to support a primary business.
Sixty-two percent of respondents indicated they are authors, in addition to speaking. Statis-
tically, those who identified themselves as independent speakers, consultants,
trainers, coaches, facilitators, and/or keynoters were most likely to be authors.
