MUSIC AWAKENS
CONSCIOUSNESS
The French Academies of Science and
Medicine recognized physician Alfred
Tomatis for his revolutionary research
in the area of hearing and sound. In
the late l960s, many of the monks
at a Benedictine monastery in the
south of France suffered from what
appeared to be a rare disease. They
were exhausted and unable to perform
their daily tasks. Several doctors
were called in, but no one could
diagnose the problem. Finally, Dr.
Tomatis was called to the monastery.
He noticed that 70 of the 90 monks
were slumping in their cells like wet
dishrags. Upon further examination,
Dr. Tomatis detected the problem. A
young abbot had decreed that all of
the brothers should stop singing chants
during their daily rounds, and instead
use their energies for more meaning-
ful pursuits. Dr. Tomatis surmised that
the music energized the monks. When
the monks began chanting again, they
regained their energy, health and zest
within five months.
MOVE YOUR AUDIENCE
Your music will move your audience if
it is a personalized extension of your
authentic self. Music cannot simply be
employed as another presentation tool,
such as a PowerPoint® presentation.
It must be as personalized as the cornerstone of your message. Combined
with the healing power of music, you
will delight listeners with a memorable
feast for their ears and souls.
SPEAKERS CAN
USE MUSIC TO:
• Set the tone with the audience
• Intensify their message so
listeners experience greater
depth of emotions
• Identify more easily with the
audience.
• Imprint their message or lesson
on the audience.
• Increase audience participation
• Assist in memorization and deliv-
ery of presentations
