Putting a fine point on the speaking industry
One for
the Books
When I began my career at NSA more than 20 years ago, we strongly encouraged members to publish books to establish
their credibility as speakers and experts
in their fields. While that message still
resonates today, the changes and choices
for publishing have opened many new
paths for would-be authors to enhance
their speaking careers, such as publishing with a major publishing house, self
publishing, and/or digital publishing.
NSA finally followed its own advice
and entered the publishing arena with
the release of Paid to Speak in June
2011. To date, over 5,000 copies have
been sold, due in great part to members’
support in recommending the book as a
must-read for professional speakers and
those aspiring to a speaking career. On
the heels of Paid to Speak, I am excited
to announce the release of NSA’s second
book, Speak More! Marketing Strategies
to Get More Speaking Business, at the
NSA Annual Convention in Indianapolis
next month.
Speak More! provides cutting-edge,
tried-and-true, and common-sense marketing strategies, tactics, and techniques
to help professional speakers achieve
their business objectives. In this book,
33 NSA members, including renowned
business experts, authors, and marketing gurus, share their sage advice for
setting yourself apart from the competition. Their real-life experiences
describe what works and what doesn’t
in effectively promoting your business,
brand, products, and services to grow
your bottom line.
The book will show you how to:
• Develop a strong personal brand
• Get the most out of networking and
public relations
• Publish a book to propel you from a
speaker to an expert
• Harness the power of social media
• Create a do-it-yourself video
• Launch your own radio show
• Snag and prepare for media inter-
views in your field
• Optimize mobile marketing with QR
codes
• Go global with your message
And much more!
Many of the proven methods in
this book have little or no monetary investment, yet provide big pay
offs, including increased revenues and
opportunities to Speak More! It is the
ideal follow up to Paid to Speak.
The success of Paid to Speak and Speak
More! lies in the content, which was created
and shared by your fellow members, in
addition to everyone who helped NSA successfully enter the publishing world.
Spotlight on Publishing
To underscore the importance of
publishing to enhance your speak-
ing business, the NSA Foundation
will dedicate its annual seminar
program in Indianapolis to provid-
ing you access to the latest trends
and information on getting pub-
lished and becoming a best-selling
author. Three high-level publishing
professionals will share their knowl-
edge and experiences in the trenches:
Matt Holt, vice president of acqui-
sitions at John Wiley & Sons, a
major New York publishing house;
Jeff Herman, a well-known literary
agent; and Clint Greenleaf, CPA, and
CEO of Greenleaf Publishing. Nido
Qubein, CSP, CPAE, will wrap up the
morning with a facilitated roundtable
discussion featuring some of NSA’s
best-selling authors.
