A career-changing moment or experience
A Golden
App-ortunity
Igrew up with an entrepreneur- ial spirit and always wanted to wn my own business. I thought I was following that path when I got into real estate. I was making enough money to pay
the bills, manage my team and business,
and build a solid reputation in the real
estate market.
The problem was that I had no time
to spend on the things I was making
this money for: family, friends, traveling, etc. I kept thinking, “In a couple
more months I’ll have more time.”
Unfortunately, that moment never came,
and it took a horrible car accident to
knock me off the hamster wheel.
I was driving down the interstate late
at night when a deer jumped in front
of my car, sending me crashing into the
median. My car flipped four times before
finally coming to a stop. My left arm was
so badly mutilated that the doctors didn’t
know if surgery would even be worth the
risk. Luckily, they saved my arm, but they
told me that I would never be able to use
my arm again.
While I was recovering in the hospital, I had plenty of time to contemplate
where my life was going. Medical bills
were stacking up, and my real estate
business was failing without my physical
presence. I felt helpless and depressed,
not sure how I was going to make it out
of the hospital with my mind and spirit
intact, let alone my arm.
Luckily, my friend came to visit
me, and that moment changed my life
forever. He showed me an article called
“App Millionaires” which discussed the
freedom of the mobile lifestyle and the
opportunity to make millions through
outsourcing app development. I laughed
at the idea and told him I had no experience with technology, especially
apps—as I had just bought my iPhone,
ironically, the day before the accident.
But my disbelief didn’t keep me from
researching further. I spent the next
couple days researching the app marketplace and the inner workings of
submitting and developing apps. I knew
this could be the answer to my problems.
Once I was out of the hospital, I
immediately looked up an app development company and met with them to
discuss an app idea. Now, three years
later, I have founded three different app
companies with more than 46 apps and
35 million downloads worldwide. I live
a life free from the 9-to- 5 grind while I
work from all over the world.
It’s hard for most people to understand how a guy with no technology
experience could be so successful in the
app space. So my next venture has been
publishing my book, App Empire: Make
Money, Have a Life, and Let Technology
Work for You, to help people understand that the app space is open to
anyone with ambition to create a business that works while they don’t.
Chad Mureta shares his
experiences and expertise in
his book, App Empire: Make
Money, Have a Life, and Let
Technology Work for You.
Mureta has spearheaded the development
and marketing of 46 apps, downloaded
more than 35 million times. Mureta’s
unique insight, experience and tenacity have
enabled him to make his businesses thrive,
all while living the life of his dreams and
traveling the world.
