BREAKING AWAY FOR
BREAKTHROUGH IDEAS
Silver believes that his adventures have
not only given him a profound sense of
accomplishment, but they have also led
to breakthrough ideas for his business,
given him more focus, and clarity in his
business thinking.
“I think anytime we can get ourselves
out of our regular environment, there’s
always going to be a new lesson, a new
way of looking at things. I’ve really
found that to be the case. If I’m going
to a different country, with a new
culture, it makes me more aware. If
you’re looking for new things and new
ideas, you’ll find them. A lot of times,
the best ideas really come from when
we disengage from the day to day,
email, and all our regular activities.”
RICH EXPERIENCES
CREATE A RICH LIFE
Silver’s new focus is on his group,
Maverick 1000 and his Maverick
Business Adventures. (This is the group
he was with learning sword fighting
and sabrage in New York City.) The
Maverick 1000 is a “by invitation only”
group of CEOs and entrepreneurs who
have a gross income of $1 million. This
is what sparked the idea for his latest
book Maverick Startup, where he helps
readers take their business ideas from
scratch to seven figures.
“I created this group to be a hub for
connecting the connectors and instigating the instigators. I put all these
successful entrepreneurs in a room
and, instead of just having a boring
cocktail party, we can create an out-of-the-ordinary experience for them.
Then, the bonds that they share become
even stronger. Since I’m the connection point, everyone attributes things
that happen in their business from
those relationships back to me. Maybe I
didn’t make the direct introduction, but
it gets attributed to me because of the
unique experience.
At the end of the day, I believe that
it comes down to the people that you
know, the relationships you have with
those people, and the experiences you
share with them.”
Silver seems to have figured out how
to seamlessly blend his business life with
his personal and family life. For the past
few years, Silver has brought together a
group of entrepreneurs to Necker Island,
Richard Branson’s private island. The
focus of the retreat is to help fellow entre-
preneur with their business goals, but he
also turns it into a nice family vacation,
bringing his wife and two kids. “I firmly
believe that we get to set the rules for what
we want to do in our lives and our busi-
ness. The clients that we want to attract
and the people that we want to help will
be attracted to that and some might be
repelled by that if you set the rules too
strict, but that’s up to you. And there’s
not much joy and happiness if you’re
always having to be reactive to somebody
else. I like the analogy that if your life is
an empty glass and you have to fill it up
with rocks. The big rocks are the impor-
tant things in life and the little rocks are
the less important. If you fill up your glass
with all the little rocks first, you won’t
have room for the big (important) rocks.
But if you fill it up with the big rocks
first, there will always be pockets of space
where the little rocks can fill.”
GET RICH BY
ENRICHING OTHERS
Silver is known for collaborating and
partnering with people on various
projects. “I’m not interested in what
somebody can do for me tomorrow. I’m
interested in building up real relationships that are collaborative in my field.
My focus is on how I can give my affiliates, partners, and customers 10 to 100
times more than I get.” Affiliate marketing has played a big role in Silver’s
big earnings. “Because of the relationships I’ve developed over the years, we
recently took a look at our numbers and
