With more than 200 million daily active users, Instagram Story is on its way to utpacing the outdated newsfeed as the
preferred social media format of today’s digital native.
Images posted to Story disappear after 24 hours, so
they’re a great way to show what’s happening in the
moment. And, instead of scrolling up and down,
which is native to the desktop design of a decade ago,
Instagram Stories embody a more mobile-optimized
experience of swiping left and right.
Instead of telling people through text-centric,
edited, “perfect” moments, Stories show them with
frequent, authentic, and highly visual micro-moments.
This intimate, real-time way of sharing is more intuitive for mobile users and encapsulates feelings and
moments in ways that words simply can’t. Couple
that with the understanding that Instagram Stories
are meant to be “raw and real” and you have an addictive recipe for share-ability on steroids!
While this fast-paced content is easy to create and consume,
keep a few best practices in mind so your hard-earned views
leave an impression long after your Story disappears:
Design for no sound. We whip out our phones and mindlessly scroll at work, in boring meetings, or in public spaces. To
be sure you’re getting the most views, optimize for volume-off
consumption. If you can’t avoid sound, flex your creativity
to ensure that context isn’t lost for those with their volume
