As a serial entrepreneur, I would wake up in the morn- ing with my mind running a million miles an hour. On those tired mornings, I would hit the snooze button and try
to sleep for an extra half-hour. My racing
mind made me feel guilty for losing 30
minutes of so-called productivity, so
I’d reach over to my phone, which is
also my alarm, to check my email.
This practice made me feel “on
top” of my business. Then, I
would jump into my morning
routine of coffee with my wife,
get the kids ready for school,
head to the gym and off to the
office. Once at the office, I’d be
pulled in many different direc-
tions, ranging from conference
calls to sales and marketing func-
tions to employee management. At the
end of the day, I’d wrap things up and go home, only to
repeat the routine the next day. It was like being in the
movie, Groundhog Day.
This routine was laden with problems. First, I felt there
was no benefit to being an entrepreneur. I essentially
created a job for myself, but I was suffering from the rat
