to your body
As an expert communicator, you know that listen- ing is as important as speaking: You listen to the needs of your clients, read your audiences, and keep your fingers on the pulse of your industry. But are you ignoring the whispers of your own
body to build your business and stay on the road?
USE EATING TOOLS, NOT RULES
Professional speakers face myriad challenges that make them susceptible to mindless eating. You may work from a home office just
yards from the kitchen or rush through airports grabbing food preventively. You may face jet lag, unpredictable mealtimes, dinner and
drinks with clients, or room service alone. Mindful eating is a simple
but meaningful way to deal with these challenges. Here’s how:
First, check your fuel gauge. You wouldn’t pull into a gas
station to fill up without first checking your fuel gauge. But how
often do you eat just because food is there? To recognize the difference bet ween wanting to eat and needing to eat, pause and ask, “Am
I hungry?” You may be surprised to notice how often you feel like
eating just because you’re bored, tired, stressed, or want a reward.
