any NSA members return from Influence both
excited and exhausted. They’ve been drinking
from an educational fire hose and have more
ideas than they’ll ever implement. They’ve been
inspired by main-stage speakers, challenged by
breakout sessions, and rejuvenated by hallway
conversations. They arrive home totally spent
and are asleep before their heads hit the pillow.
But suppose you returned home and needed
to stay up until 2 a.m. freezing vegetables and
taking stock of your, well, livestock? Or suppose
you needed to turn down more than a dozen presentations because harvest time required your
full-time attention? Or suppose you helped an
event planner bake cookies for an audience, not
because you had to, but because you wanted to?
Meet Jolene Brown, CSP, CPAE. She has
done all of these things.
Jolene is a speaker who lives her message more deeply
than many. In fact, her personal and professional roots
are intertwined like bamboo. And it is this congruence
with her message that makes her one of the busiest
speakers in NSA and one of the most beloved speakers
in the agricultural industry today. To understand her
success, you must look at the career path Jolene took
and realize that every seed she planted along the way
was both purposeful and fruitful.
CHORES AND CHALLENGES
Jolene grew up on a farm in Iowa. Her family raised Belgian
draft horses. So, at a very early age, she learned what it
took to live on and contribute to a working farm. And
while it may sound idyllic to get up early in the morning
to do chores and work the land, Jolene did experience her
share of family challenges. As a result, she understands
the human dynamic that connects farming and families.
