Build a strong business with
skills and support
5 WAYS TO UP
YOUR SALES AND
BY SCOTT LESNICK, CSP
Speakers speak. But sales and marketing knowledge is a must in order to build a sustainable business. In conversations with some of our best, brightest, and most successful NSA members—as
well as through my own experiences—I’ve come up with five sales and
marketing must-dos that create a strong, long-lasting business.
1. GET SALES TRAINING.
I know speakers who have zero sales
background and experience. And yet, they
run a seemingly magically successful business. These folks realized that what we
do is 85% to 90% behind-the-scenes grunt
work. The other 10% to 15% is, thankfully,
spent in front of an audience and clients.
Consider getting some professional
sales training. You can pay to learn, you
can connect with someone who knows
sales, or you can “wing it.” The latter
will diminish your ability to attract clients and grow your business, and it will
possibly waste your precious time. Find a
pro who fits your budget and your goals.
It’s easy to spend money for training,
knowledge, and guidance. Be thoughtful
about whom you select and what you
commit to or you’ll overspend and not
implement what you learned.
