TEDx BY HAYLEY FOSTER, MEd
Nope. Don’t Short-Change
the Short-Talk Format.
DEAD?IS
Would you give up two days to fly across the country to speak for 18 minutes for free?
When launching TEDxNASA in 2009, nearly
all the colleagues I invited declined. Because the
platform didn’t yet exist, the value was only apparent to a handful of visionaries: Sam Horn; Mike
Rayburn, CSP, CPAE; Jana Stanfield, CSP; and
Stephen Shapiro, CSP, CPAE.
Through 2012, outliers like Brené Brown gave
standout presentations elevated to TED.com,
catapulting their careers. A TEDx talk at a
high-production-value event carried with
it tremendous credibility and prestige.
However, it wasn’t until TED permeated
popular culture that many speakers put
giving a TEDx talk on their bucket list.
